Hazel Grove chord
A cross-country Sprinter unit traverses the chord constructed in the 1980s to allow Manchester-Sheffield trains to run via Stockport. The roller-coaster profile introduced into the up Buxton line is remarkable.

Rising Sun bus turning circle, Hazel Grove
The outer terminus of Stagecoach Manchester's route 192 from Manchester via Stockport, it takes its name from the pub just visible under the girder bridge at the junction of Macclesfield Road (left) with the A6. Exit from the turning circle is traffic light controlled, presumably to improve the chances of buses joining the queue of traffic for the A6 junction. The girder bridge and viaduct in the background carry the former Midland Railway line from Sheffield via the Hope Valley; just out of frame to the left this is linked via the Hazel Grove Chord to the ex London & North Western line from Buxton, enabling trains from Sheffield to reach Stockport and Manchester Piccadilly.
