Rose Hill (Marple) station
In 1977, the line from Marple Wharf Junction was still double track throughout, with a turnback facility some way beyond Rose Hill station on what was once a through route to Macclesfield. The train has reversed and will shortly form a service back to Manchester Piccadilly. Subsequent rationalisation led to the view shown here: http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/828137.

Aboard a train at Rose Hill
On board a train from Rose Hill to Manchester Piccadilly. There were maybe a dozen or more passengers in the carriages behind me. At most of the stops between a quarter and half a dozen passengers joined. The front part of the carriage has a notice asking people to keep the section free for the use of the conductors Image I never saw one for the whole journey. At Gorton a man got on using the front door and sat in that section unaware of the restrictive notice. During the coronavirus pandemic the service by Northern has been reduced from half-hourly to hourly and now local residents have been informed that services between Manchester and Rose Hill will not operate between early September and mid December 2020. This will leave Rose Hill, Woodley, Hyde North and Hyde Central without service for around four months.

The station opened in 1869 on what was originally the Macclesfield, Bollington and Marple Railway. The line to Macclesfield was closed in 1970 and most of its route was converted into the Middlewood Way, a "linear park" and trail for walkers, cyclists and horse-riders, During the coronavirus pandemic the service by Northern was reduced from half-hourly to hourly and now local residents have been informed that services between Manchester and Rose Hill will not operate between early September and mid December 2020. This will leave Rose Hill, Woodley, Hyde North and Hyde Central without service for around four months.
