In 1977, the line from Marple Wharf Junction was still double track throughout, with a turnback facility some way beyond Rose Hill station on what was once a through route to Macclesfield. The train has reversed and will shortly form a service back to Manchester Piccadilly. Subsequent rationalisation led to the view shown here: http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/828137.
