Old Milestone, Peak Forest Canal
The broken foot of a very solidly buried dressed stone, at the right location to be the remains of a milestone. It is not obvious there would have been a subscription cut but a typical one would be:

The very definition of 'urban fringe', north side of Woodley
A derelict mill built in the 1860s, a modern house, woodland and pasture, all on the bank of a canal. The Peak Forest Canal opened in 1800 and helped create the industrial development this side of Manchester.
