Peak Forest Canal at Newtown, Derbyshire
There used to be a small boatyard here, but the current messy site by Bridge No 28 may well be a smart development before long. http://www.cylex-uk.co.uk/reviews/viewcompanywebsite.aspx?firmaName=new-mills-marina&companyId=17944504

Peak Forest Canal at Newtown
The bridge ahead carries the A6015 over the canal, while the mill beyond now used to make sweets is a pleasure to walk past scent-wise.

Peak Forest Canal and Brunswick Mill, Newtown, Derbyshire
This is at Bridge No 28, which carries Albion Road (the A 6105) despite retaining the name Thornsett Road Bridge from earlier times. The mill has a date stone showing 1883, but in the mid 20th century was taken over and greatly extended by the Swizzels Matlow sweet factory. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swizzels_Matlow
Anyone fancy a love heart?

Albion Road Bridge at New Mills, Derbyshire
Bridge No 28 across the Peak Forest canal is labelled as Thornsett Road Bridge in the widely used Nicholson canal Guide No 5. On the left is the former Brunswick Mill, now used and much extended by the Swizzells Matlow sweet factory. Many of the girls used to buy love hearts when I was at primary school!

Albion Road Bridge in Newtown, Derbyshire
This is the Upper Peak Forest Canal, looking west towards Thornsett Road Bridge, No 28. Curiously, this bridge now carries Albion Road*. Ahead is Brunswick Mill, with its chimney.
P. Whitehead writes: "The turnpike bridge over the canal was built in 1834 and initially it was called Thornsett Road Bridge but later this was changed to Albion Road Bridge to reflect the name of the turnpike through Warksmoor." http://www.pittdixon.go-plus.net/upfc-warksmoor-wharf/upfc-warksmoor-wharf.htm
