The blue plaque commemorates Arthur Lowe, best known for his part as Captain Mainwaring in the long-running and frequently repeated television sitcom 'Dad's Army', who it states was born in this terrace (suggesting that nobody is sure exactly which house). Hayfield is a very different place to the fictional Warmington on Sea or to the East Anglian town that hosts his statue: Image

This eccentrically decorated house is a well-known local landmark. The house has recently been sold but the new owners have so far not removed these individualistic adornments. [Update: they have now; I'm told some of them have been rehomed in the garden of the nearby Sportsman Inn.]
