Jo Royle
Opened in 1972 by the Eponymous Jo Royle, I have been buying boots, compasses, maps and odd bits of gear here ever since. Now run by brothers David & Andrew Barnes, it is still a good place to buy the very best, although I no longer fit in any of the clothing on offer. The boots still fit, however!

Belmont Terrace and Buxton Town Hall
Buildings on Market Place. Those on the right are part of Belmont Terrace, shown on the 1879 1:500 plan, the majority of which is alongside Terrace Road. Beyond is Buxton Town Hall, designed by William Pollard and built 1887-9. The 1879 1:500 plan shows a Market Hall on the site - this burnt down in 1885.
