The town hall tower was added, funded by the Dukes of Devonshire - the local large landowner. The town hall faces the Market Place.

Belmont Terrace and Buxton Town Hall
Buildings on Market Place. Those on the right are part of Belmont Terrace, shown on the 1879 1:500 plan, the majority of which is alongside Terrace Road. Beyond is Buxton Town Hall, designed by William Pollard and built 1887-9. The 1879 1:500 plan shows a Market Hall on the site - this burnt down in 1885.
