The Shepherds Call on the corner of Market Street and Tower Street is a Greenall's Image] pub known locally as simply "The Shep".

There is an old bench that has been better days under the advertising hoarding. The Shepherds Call has sign advertising for a new landlord. However I understand that the current landlord has decided to delay his retirement and the sign has since been removed. A set of bollards stop traffic on the main road encroaching on to the pavement. On the other corner of Tower Street is a former Pizza takeaway. It advertises a cup-cake delivery service but the business does not appear to be actually based at this address. Below that is a bus stop.

The Shepherds Call on the corner of Tower Street and Market Street was a beerhouse established before 1869 and until 1874 was kept by John Fowley. It was used by farmers and shepherds from Werneth Low and surrounding areas who would walk down to the inn with their dogs for a drink and a natter. In 1891 it had stabling for three horses but no other accommodation and was tied house belonging to Reddish brewer Richard Clarke. It gained a full licence in 1961 and a year later became a Boddingtons pub and then later a Greenalls Image In 2016 it was bought by the Punch Group, underwent restoration and reopened under new management.

The A627 Market Street. The road lane-markings don't refer the minor crossroads of Tower Street in the foreground but the major junction ahead where the A627 turns right into Dowson Road whilst Market Street continues towards Gee Cross village. On the corner of Tower Street is the Shepherds Call Image which has recently been refurbished and is under new management.

After the main race had cleared Market Street a team of youthful runners took part in a fun run up to the top of Market Street and back gain.
