The Shepherds Call on the corner of Tower Street and Market Street was a beerhouse established before 1869 and until 1874 was kept by John Fowley. It was used by farmers and shepherds from Werneth Low and surrounding areas who would walk down to the inn with their dogs for a drink and a natter. In 1891 it had stabling for three horses but no other accommodation and was a tied house belonging to Reddish brewer Richard Clarke. It gained a full licence in 1961 and a year later became a Boddingtons pub and then later a Greenalls Image In 2016 it was bought by the Punch Group, underwent restoration and reopened under new management. It has recently had an extension built at the side. With the old advertising hoarding on Market Street removed Image there is now a view past the pub to the tower of St George's Church.
