Tasty Fish, Stockport
Occupying a small footnote in pop history, this humble fish and chip shop is situated a few hundred yards from the legendary Strawberry Studios in Stockport. In 1991, the band New Order had split into singer and guitarist Bernard Sumner's project with Johnny Marr of The Smiths - Electronic - while Peter Hook had built the forgettable band Revenge (subtle) around his ham-fisted bass playing. That left Gillian Gilbert (keyboards badly) and Stephen Morris (drums) twiddling their thumbs in the studio. They came up with their own project and called it, with either admirable self-deprecation or a stunning lack of imagination, The Other Two. The first single they released was rather jolly and would have been a modest hit had the bands label, Factory, not collapsed, leading to distribution and promotion problems. They called the single Tasty Fish after the chip shop across the way and it peaked at number 41. It reached number 84 in Australia. Listen https://youtu.be/2zEZAij6vGw
