Old Milepost by the A6 in Disley
Cast iron post by the A6, in parish of Disley (Macclesfield District), Fountain Square; at West corner of fountain, in pavement by railings, on South East side of road. Cast iron CCC1898, erected by the County Council in the 19th century. Inscription reads:- : STOCKPORT 6¾ / MANCHESTER / 13 : : CHESHIRE / 1898 / COUNTY COUNCIL : : WHALEY BRIDGE / 4 MILES / BUXTON 11 : Maker:- : W H SMITH & CO / MAKERS / WHITCHURCH : Grade II listed. 1898 Milestone
The cast iron milestone on the A6 Image is Grade II listed https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1231555 The top face reads "Cheshire County Council" 1898. The right vertical face records distances to Whaley Bridge (4 miles) and Buxton (11). The left vertical face records distances to Stockport (6¾ miles) and Manchester (13) as well W H Smith & Co Makers Whitchurch and the initials D.H.

The Fountain, Disley
Inscribed ""This fountain WAS ERECTED BY RICHARD and THOMAS ORFORD ESQ For the Use of the Inhabitants of Disley A.D. 1834". Both the fountain itself and the milestone in the bottom right-hand corner of this picture are Grade II listed.
