Cast iron post by the A6, in parish of Disley (Macclesfield District), Fountain Square; at West corner of fountain, in pavement by railings, on South East side of road. Cast iron CCC1898, erected by the County Council in the 19th century. Inscription reads:- : STOCKPORT 6¾ / MANCHESTER / 13 : : CHESHIRE / 1898 / COUNTY COUNCIL : : WHALEY BRIDGE / 4 MILES / BUXTON 11 : Maker:- : W H SMITH & CO / MAKERS / WHITCHURCH : Grade II listed.
