It's not so very many years ago that the A6 was the major route from the west of Scotland and Lancashire to the south! Old water fountain in centre of junction.

The Fountain, Disley
Inscribed ""This fountain WAS ERECTED BY RICHARD and THOMAS
ORFORD ESQ For the Use of the Inhabitants of Disley A.D. 1834". Both the fountain itself and the milestone in the bottom right-hand corner of this picture are Grade II listed.

Old Milepost by the A6 in Disley
Cast iron post by the A6, in parish of Disley (Macclesfield District), Fountain Square; at West corner of fountain, in pavement by railings, on South East side of road. Cast iron CCC1898, erected by the County Council in the 19th century.
Inscription reads:-
