Petre Bank (2)
I had the advantage over Mike Kirby http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1474255 http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1474275 of visiting the area on a day when there were no leaves on the trees. There is little to add to his descriptions except to say that in the early 1970s the Local Authority had proposed demolition, a decision only rescinded after strong opposition, but which also resulted in improvements including the addition of bathrooms being made.

Worth Clough (1), Middlewood Road
Also known as Petre Bank, or Pear Tree Bank, named after the large sandbanks behind them which were removed in the late nineteenth century. Consists of 14 grade II listed terraced cottages, (extensively refurbished), dated 1815, in white-washed brick, built for the 7th Viscount Bulkeley, who wished to provide decent housing for the local miners. (Left hand view of the row, difficult to photograph due to foliage).

Consists of 14 grade II listed terraced cottages, (extensively refurbished), dated 1815, in white-washed brick, built for the 7th Viscount Bulkeley, who wished to provide decent housing for the local miners. Originally there were 12 cottages plus a double one at the centre used as a grocer's shop with a warehouse and shopkeeper's accommodation above. The blocked window was formerly a loading bay with the date stone above that. (Right hand view of the row, difficult to photograph due to foliage).
