Entrance to Bank Chambers
The building on the corner of Market Place and St Petersgate was erected for the Bank of Stockport to designs of T. A. Allen in 1868. It was taken over by the Manchester County Bank in 1871, which was subsequently taken over by the National Westminster Bank. It was converted in the late 20th or early 21st century into a Yate's Wine Lodge and subsequently the Bambooza nightclub Image In 2014 the ground floor and basement were let to local pub operator Yacoub Naber who has re-opened it as sports bar and live music venue called Bank Chambers Live. Bank Chambers: Architectural detail
Detail above the entrance to Bank Chambers Image The date above the coat of arms is 1836 although the building was not built until 1868. Maybe that is the date of the formation of the original Bank of Stockport. Anyone know? Update: RBS archive records https://www.rbs.com/heritage/companies/bank-of-stockport.html confirm that the Bank of Stockport was formed in 1836 so presumably the coat of arms is that of the bank.
