Detail above the entrance to Bank Chambers Image The date above the coat of arms is 1836 although the building was not built until 1868. Maybe that is the date of the formation of the original Bank of Stockport. Anyone know? Update: RBS archive records https://www.rbs.com/heritage/companies/bank-of-stockport.html confirm that the Bank of Stockport was formed in 1836 so presumably the coat of arms is that of the bank.
