Memorial to American Airmen
In the centre of the Priory Memorial Gardens was a fountain dedicated in 1963 to the American Airmen of the 91 st Bomb Group (H) who were based in Bassingbourn. This has since been replaced by a granite obelisk which was rededicated in July 1989.

Royston Men .....?Are Black and Fierce & Strange of Mouth?
When Rupert Brooke wrote “Royston men in the far south are black and fierce and strange of mouth” little could he have realised that within two years those men would be being slaughtered in the trenches of WW1. Brooke himself did not survive the war so would never have seen this monument to those same men.
