This is the B656, formerly the A1. The Flat Earth sell electrically assisted bicycles, and I was here to try one, riding along Newtown, the turning to the right.

Codicote Telephone Exchange, Herts
Situated off High Street, this TE is of a standard design dating from the early 1970s and common throughout the United Kingdom. It has the code SMCI and supplies telephone and broadband services to 1,359 residential and 81 non-residential premises in Codicote plus Ayot St Lawrence, Langley and Nup End nearby. The Goat Inn, Codicote
Right in the centre of Codicote village, this atmospheric old building started life in the 16th century as a farmhouse, becoming a pub in the 18th century. It was formerly a Benskins house but is now independently run.

Codicote: The Opening
This intriguingly named road is off the High Street. It is a short private road but a public Restricted Byway that leads to Cowards Lane. Looking at old Ordnance Survey maps available on line the whole area on this side of the High Street is shown as allotment gardens in the 1881 edition, but the route, and some of the current houses along the High Street, were in place by 1898.
