Taken in September 1974, this photo shows a London Country RF68 (LYF 419) by the Green in the centre of the village, whilst on a private tour of bus routes in North and West Hertfordshire. The vehicle is an AEC Regal IV with Metro-Cammell 39-seater bodywork originally owned by London Transport when it operated the green buses outside Greater London until 1970. The bus destination blind shows Pipers Lane in Caddington together with route 364. This route operated between Flamstead Village and Hitchin via Luton, Breachwood Green and Preston until the 1970s. Now Preston is served by weekdays only route 88 between Hitchin and Luton which is operated by Redline Buses.
