The 'Salisbury Arms Hotel', Hertford
The date of 1539 appears on the building, but in fact this house, which was formerly known as the 'Bell', can trace its history right back to 1425. Without any doubt, it is the place to be in Hertford, with MacMullen's fine real ales, good food, and pleasant welcoming staff. Oliver Cromwell and 'Black Tom' Fairfax have both stayed there in their time.
