Ancient woodland in Forster Memorial Park
The park was presented to the public in 1919 by Lord Forster, a local resident and Governor General of Australia between 1920 and 1925, as a memorial to his two sons, Alfred and John, who were both killed during the First World War. It was part of his estate and originally consisted of woodland and fields. The central area of open grassland in the park now is still surrounded by a ring of ancient woodland.
