For months, three tower cranes were gyrating over the centre of Camberwell: Image and Image This is what they built: apartments above a gym. For much of the 20th century the Grand Cinema occupied the site.

Redevelopment by Camberwell Road,Camberwell
Thought to be flats. The view is from Camberwell Green. I wonder whether the view of the Green will lift the price of the properties. On a different scale, in Regency times, this was the case with the Nash Terraces by Regent's Park.

Not the most photogenic of sites, this is the Camberwell Road entrance to the garage. Here buses entering the garage turn right at the end of the approach road seen here and then if necessary pass through the bus wash as soon as they are inside. The garage sign can be seen on the right.

Camberwell bus garage
Camberwell bus garage was completed in June 1914 only to be requisitioned by the War Department between the following November and July 1919. The three-storey office building seen here fronting Camberwell New Road was part of the original garage. The garage is currently owned and operated by Go-Ahead London but between 1991-96 housed the offices of London Central which had become a Go-Ahead subsidiary in 1994.
