A colourful display of crocuses brightens the fenced off triangle of grass at this busy road junction although here it is unusually empty of both vehicles and people.

The "elite" runners go along Shooters Hill. This was the front runner of the "rest of the pack", less than a mile into the race. From his running number this is Richard Marriott who came in 79th overall in a very creditable 2 hours 36 minutes.

London Marathon - walking and wombling
Less than a mile into the race and one runner has already lapsed into walking. Not surprisingly the race results do not show her finishing. Let's hope she manages it next time. The Womble was defying calls from the race organisers not to wear restrictive costumes on one of the hottest Marathon days yet. Surely s/he should have been coming at the back anyway to pick up everyone's litter?
