Charlton Road from Westcombe Hill
A colourful display of crocuses brightens the fenced off triangle of grass at this busy road junction although here it is unusually empty of both vehicles and people.

Batley Park in winter
Batley Park is the somewhat misleading name given to the roundabout at the Royal Standard near Blackheath. The handful of mature trees on the roundabout had a wintry look immediately after a heavy snowfall. Compare a Spring view

Royal Standard - traffic management
Council workmen had spent quite a long time working on this junction in March 2013, but the changes are quite subtle - a build-out from the kerb (right) and a rebuilding of the traffic island on a slightly different alignment to force northbound traffic from two lanes into one.
An unintended consequence is that cars parking like the one in the picture - quite legally as it is only a single yellow line not in force at a weekend - prevent buses getting through. The bus driver had to honk his horn several times to get the car driver's attention.

Spring comes to Batley Park
One of the first sunny days at the end of winter, and the crocuses and daffodils are out in "Batley Park", the somewhat grand name given to a triangular patch of open space in the middle of the Royal Standard roundabout.

London Marathon - front runner
The "elite" runners go along Shooters Hill. This was the front runner of the "rest of the pack", less than a mile into the race. From his running number this is Richard Marriott who came in 79th overall in a very creditable 2 hours 36 minutes.
