Royal Standard - traffic management
Council workmen had spent quite a long time working on this junction in March 2013, but the changes are quite subtle - a build-out from the kerb (right) and a rebuilding of the traffic island on a slightly different alignment to force northbound traffic from two lanes into one. An unintended consequence is that cars parking like the one in the picture - quite legally as it is only a single yellow line not in force at a weekend - prevent buses getting through. The bus driver had to honk his horn several times to get the car driver's attention.

Batley Park in winter
Batley Park is the somewhat misleading name given to the roundabout at the Royal Standard near Blackheath. The handful of mature trees on the roundabout had a wintry look immediately after a heavy snowfall. Compare a Spring view Image
