Course of old railway
Looking north from Cox's Walk footbridge, we see the course of the abandoned railway. Lordship Lane station, of which no trace remains, was about 100 metres north of this point and would have been easily visible from the bridge.

Bridge over dismantled railway, SE26
This bridge was built to cross a railway. The railway line, which ran to Crystal Palace High Level, closed in 1954 but over half a century later, the footbridge is maintained in good condition. The tracks passed beneath the second span of the bridge. To see how the bridge looked when the railway line was intact, and in the intervening years as nature has gradually reclaimed the site, have a look at the Disused Stations website http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/l/lordship_lane/index2.shtml See Image for another view and the Pissarro connection explained.

Sydenham Hill in 1985
Sydenham Hill is on a ridge in South and South East London. It offers good views north towards the City of London. This image was taken in the month of November, as leaves were starting to turn red.

Pissarro painted here
Camille Pissarro stood on this bridge in 1871 to paint his famous picture of a steam train heading south from Lordship Lane station towards the painter - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Pissarro_lordship.jpg. This is the view now as the railway line closed in 1954 and woodland has enveloped this part of the old trackbed, although in the other direction the former trackbed provides a walking route through Sydenham Hill Woods - see http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2635207. For more information on Lordship Lane station and the former line to Crystal Palace High Level see http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/l/lordship_lane/index.shtml..
