A selection of solid mid-C19th houses of similar scale, but each differing slightly in the styles and motifs employed. The one on the right is now a doctors' surgery.

Queen's Hotel, Church Road
A grandiose building which is visible from some distance around. By F. Pouget in 1853-54. It was partly rebuilt after a fire in 1975 and there is a modern extension to the right (out of shot).
A blue plaque on the ground floor records that the French novelist, Emile Zola, lived at the hotel in 1898-99. He fled France after being sentenced to imprisonment for writing a letter (J'accuse) in defence of Alfred Dreyfus.
