Organ of St John's church
A brief history of the church generally is given at Image A full history of the organ is at http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/offroadrunner/the_organ.htm but briefly, it was one of the first electro-pneumatic organs ever built, by Lewis & Co of Brixton, using batteries, although the technology was ahead of its time and not successful. Much added to and altered over the years, it was restored in 1999 back to nearer Lewis's original intentions.

St John Evangelist, Sylvan Road
By John Loughborough Pearson, 1878-87, in an Early English Gothic style with a pair of turrets and a rose window. It was restored after bomb damage by Caroe and Partners, 1946-51. Grade II* listed.
Pearson (1817-97) worked for Ignatius Bonomi, Anthony Salvin and Philip Hardwick before establishing his own practice in 1843. He worked in the Gothic style, becoming one of the leading Victorian church architects.
