St John Evangelist, Sylvan Road
By John Loughborough Pearson, 1878-87, in an Early English Gothic style with a pair of turrets and a rose window. It was restored after bomb damage by Caroe and Partners, 1946-51. Grade II* listed. Pearson (1817-97) worked for Ignatius Bonomi, Anthony Salvin and Philip Hardwick before establishing his own practice in 1843. He worked in the Gothic style, becoming one of the leading Victorian church architects.
