Zola House flats to the rear of Crystal Palace Parade, Upper Norwood, south London
The new building appears on Google's satellite view but not Bing's. It has a private access beside the Westow House pub, partly seen in Image A sign announces luxury two and three-bed apartments; various companies seem to have a finger in the sales pie. Centre left is an extension of one of the cafés in the Parade. Down below is an area that was the site of the turntable at the south end of Crystal Palace High Level Station, which had four tracks. It is now a car park for the rehab centre in Bowley Close. The greenery in the foreground is of Griselinia littoralis, a tender shrub from New Zealand, here luxuriating on a very sheltered site. The view is from Farquhar Road.

Foundation stone, former Burton's, Upper Norwood
On Westow Street, this has long ceased to be a branch of Burton's and is now a Plumbase, but the foundation stone survives. Its being laid by a member of the Burton family is typical of their interwar stores. For an image of the building itself, see Image

Top end of Farquhar Road, Upper Norwood, south London
The bridge is modern, probably built between 1984 and 1993 according to old OS maps. This was the period when the site of the Crystal Palace High Level station was redeveloped (out of shot right). Joining Crystal Palace Parade the original bridge spanned the south end of the station, believed to have been built at the time the enlarged Crystal Palace moved to south London in 1854. The Farquhar Road houses first appear on a map of 1894; in 1875 the land was shown as Brick Field. The houses are 3-storey at street level with a basement that, on steeply falling ground, is above garden level at the rear. Some have been divided into flats.
