Hawke Road, Norwood
Hawke Road offers quite a contrast in the forms housing can take. On the right Lambeth Council's Central Hill estate confidently comes to rest at the foot of its hillside site. On the right a block of probably-post-millennium flats shows all its features. Up the road are big handsome Victorian terraces and villas.

At various points on this north slope of the Norwood heights, areas of modern Lambeth Council housing are set into the chiefly Victorian urban fabric: to the right, on the skyline, a chimney marks the main body of the Central Hill estate.

Central Hill estate ? Wychwood Way
Each flat in the lower terrace, left, will have a front entrance, often highly personalised, and a small private outside space. They have the Wychwood Way address. Hawke Road
Its north side filled with the Central Hill Estate, a Lambeth Council estate of 1967-74. Lambeth's present incarnation wants to knock it all down so that it can build private houses, the sale of which will fund new social housing. There has been spirited local opposition.
