Plumstead Common
This view looks from St Margaret's Grove near St Margaret's School across a triangle of Plumstead Common towards the Victorian houses of Blendon Terrace. The tower block Everitt House is horribly out of scale with its attractive surroundings. It was built in 1976 on the site of the demolished St Margaret's Church.

Bramblebury House, Vicarage Road, Plumstead
Bramblebury House was built in 1793, and later became the vicarage to St. Margaret’s Church which was built on Plumstead Common in 1859. The church was demolished in the 1970s and the former vicarage is now a private house.

Wildflowers on Plumstead Common
This wildflower area seems to have just come up without being planted. The white of cow parsley is particularly prominent as is the blue of green alkanet. The building in the background through the gap is St Margaret's School.

Path in Plumstead Common Nature Reserve
Situated at the west end of Plumstead Common, behind Blendon Terrace, Plumstead Common Nature Reserve is a wooded area in a steep valley containing a variety of trees. It had long been neglected, becoming an unofficial dumping ground, but was revived by the Friends of Plumstead Common - see http://www.plumcomfriends.org/naturereserve.html

An Ent in Plumstead Common Nature Reserve
Plumstead Common was purchased for the people in 1877. Before that, the parish council had grazing rights and free access, even though the land was owned by Queens College, Oxford. From 1871 the college had allowed the Army access and it was largely turned into a military training ground. This led to a storm of protest and a procession to the Common took place. Their leader was temporarily imprisoned and further protest took place until an Act of Parliament authorised purchase of the Common by the Metropolitan Board of Works.
