River scene at Woolwich
This view looks upriver past an old jetty (which colliers used to use to supply coal to Woolwich Power Station, now demolished) to the Woolwich Ferry in the middle of the photograph, with its white terminal building. To the right, with the steam and two chimneys, is Tate & Lyle's at Silvertown on the other side of the Thames, whilst on the extreme left is the Waterfront Leisure Centre. The ferry always has at least one boat undergoing maintenance and this boat is seen directly ahead along by the river wall sitting on a 'grid' which allows access to the hull when the tide is low.
