Woolwich Power Station in 1960
First built at the end of Victoria's reign on the site of a ship repair yard, it was enlarged and modified several times during its life. During construction work in 1912, the timbers of a Tudor warship were discovered. They were said to be from "Sovereign", King Henry VII's ship of 1488. The station closed down in 1978. This early morning picture was taken from a southbound ferry.

Thames Path steps at Woolwich Arsenal
The steps are normally paralleled by a gentle ramp for the benefit of cyclists and wheelchair users, but as a result of construction work on the Warren Lane development the ramp had been taken behind the hoardings. Local cycle campaigners were not happy that this inconvenience on a major route (the Thames Path, National Cycle Route 1) had been allowed. The steps and ramp are just visible in the distance on Image
