Oxleas Meadow, Woolwich, London, SE18
This 1940/50s(?) café at the closed end of the Crown Woods Lane cul-de-sac looks out over the 77 hectares Oxleas Meadow and Woods site. The Royal Manor of Eltham was established in 1311 and it included this area. The woods were leased to Sir John Shaw, 2nd Baronet, by the Crown in 1679 and his family managed them until 1811. The woods were then acquired by the London County Council for public recreation purposes in 1930 and were opened to the public in 1934. Responsibility for the site passed to the Borough of Greenwich when the GLC was disbanded in 1986.

Outdoor gym - Oxleas Wood
Outdoor gyms have proliferated in recent years, the equipment invariably painted in a lurid lime green shade. There never seems to be anybody using them, however. This one is close to the café at the top of Oxleas Meadows.

Oxleas Meadow, Woolwich, London, SE18
This footpath descends towards Jack Wood and forms part of an extensive walking route called The Green Chain Walk. Behind the photographer is the Oxleas Café and a public car park beyond which is the closed end of the Crown Woods Lane, a cul-de-sac that connects to Shooter's Hill (the A207) via Kenilworth Gardens. Ahead, and around, are the 77 hectares of Oxleas Meadow and Woods, a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
