Alexander Fleming House, Elephant and Castle
One element of the London County Council's redevelopment plan of 1951, these blocks were built as government (latterly Department of Health) offices in 1959-67, but were converted to flats in 1997. The architect was Erno Goldfinger, although he might struggle to recognise these buildings now. Their expression of the "confidently tough aesthetic of exposed concrete of the early 1960s" has been completely erased. Grade II listed. Now known as Metro Central Heights.
