Bermondsey Spa gardens, western entrance
Bermondsey never had a spa in the usual sense of a medicinal spring. The "gardens" date from the 1700s, created by artist Thomas Keyse and famed for their fireworks and concerts. The 4.5-acre (18,000 m2) park was redeveloped in 2006 at a cost of £2 million.

Former Bermondsey Public Library
A grade II listed building built 1890 - 91. Now housing Kagyu Samye Dzong London, a Tibetan Buddhist meditation centre. At the time of the photograph, it still said 'Public Library' above the entrance, although not so. This has now been replaced by 'Kagyu Samye Dzong London'.

Former Public Library, Spa Road
Pevsner's verdict seems harsh: "it has little to recommend it". Perhaps it only comes alive on a sunny day with blue skies, but it seems to me to be a festive affair even if it is rather undisciplined. By John Johnson, 1890. Grade II listed.
Now a Buddhist meditation centre.
