The blue plaque was erected by the London Borough of Southwark: the English Heritage blue plaque commemorating the work of Williamson and Pearce and the Peckham Experiment is around the corner on Queens Road, on the practice's original building. (See

Former Pioneer Health Centre, St Mary's Road
By Owen Williams, 1934-35. An experiment to encourage more healthy lifestyles among local residents, including the provision of leisure facilities such as swimming pool, gym, and theatre. The building is entirely concrete and glass, its front attractively undulating (

It is now, inevitably, private, gated flats, although is occasionally open to the public. The tennis court in front - in use on a balmy November day - perhaps makes a nod to its original function.

Telephone exchange, St Mary's Road
Pleasant example of the genre, probably dating from the 1930s, Deco, but its vertical strip windows adding a dash of Modernism.
