Deptford Town Hall, New Cross Road
In Nairn's London (1966) Ian Nairn called Deptford Town Hall "The jolliest public building in London, dashed off by an Edwardian genius, Charles Rickards... abundant maritime illustrations and naval dates sprayed all over the facade. Odd enough they look, in the land-locked traffic-block that is today's New Cross. But the gusto will never look odd, nor will the infectious topsy-turvy composition that starts with vigorous horizontals and a bow window, and ends up with a great lid of a pitched roof sheltering (what else?) a relief of men-of-war." I could not possibly improve on that description.
