East London Line terminus, New Cross
Passengers wait to board an incoming East London Line train. This service will terminate by the end of 2007. When rebuilding of the line is complete it will become part of the "overground" rather than "underground" network.

New Cross Station ? 1970
A single track served for the terminus of this branch of the East London Line, still operated at the time as part of the Metropolitan Line. The line was the last haunt of the pre-war Q Stock with its distinctive clerestory roofs.

New Cross Gate station
A quiet moment at this south-east London station, where London Transport trains from Whitechapel connect with Southern Region services. Already the scene here is much changed since the photograph: the East London trains are currently suspended pending their extension to West Croydon, and a large new bridge for this has appeared in the background.

Pedestrian subway under New Cross station
