The Circle
One of four apartment blocks forming a circle around a statue of a shire horse in Queen Elizabeth Street. This development was built in 1990. Two groups of architects were involved - Campbell, Zogolovitch, Wilkinson & Gough and Robinson, Keefe & Devane.
The shire horse sculpture - Jacob The Cart Horse - is close to the location of the Courage Horseleydown Brewery stables.

Jacob
Jacob The Circle drayhorse sculpture on Queen Elizabeth Street.
The famous Courage Brewery drayhorses were stabled on this site from the early 19th century, delivering beer from the Horsleydown Lane Brewery to pubs across London.
In the 16th century the area became known as Horsleydown, derived from 'horse lie down', a description of working horses resting before crossing London Bridge.
Jacob was commissioned by Jacob's Island Company and Farlane Properties as the centrepiece of the circle, sculpted by Shirley Pace and unvelied in 1987.

The Circle
Apartments on Queen Elizabeth Street in Bermondsey, with Jacob http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2558411 as a centrepiece. A leasehold two-bedroom apartment is around half a million pounds in 2011, whatever the cost, the architecture and location are both fantastic.
