Waterloo - Basingstoke train approaching Vauxhall
View northward, towards Waterloo on the multi-track main line. The 17.54 semi-fast to Basingstoke is headed by SR Bulleid Light Pacific No. 34049 'Anti-Aircraft Command' (built 12/46 as No. 21C149, withdrawn 12/63). (Compare Image] and - 14 years earlier - Image]).

'Atlantic Coast Express' at Vauxhall, 1948
The Down train, 10.50 from Waterloo to Exeter, Plymouth, Padstow, Ilfracombe etc., with Southern Railway Bulleid 'Merchant Navy' class 4-6-2 No. 21C12 'United States Lines', still in SR livery in May 1948: it was built 1/45, renumbered under BR as 35012, rebuilt 2/57, withdrawn 4/67.
