Tower of St Mary's Newington
The second church of St Mary in Newington was built in 1876 to the designs of J Fowler. This church superseded the old parish church on Newington Butts, and was itself destroyed in World War 2. Only the tower and a small bit of adjacent wall remain and are listed grade 2 (list entry number 1385636). The tower had a clock with a single face on the south side, no longer working. Kennington Park Road
A 415 bus pauses near Kennington Underground station on its way from Elephant and Castle to Tulse Hill. Behind the bus is the tower of St Mary's Church which survived enemy action in the Second World War when most of the church was destroyed (and has since been replaced by a modern building).
