Langton Cottage
Slightly gothicky cottage standing foursquare on the crossroads: its name is associated with the nearby Langton 'big house'. Unusual, and unWelsh, Reliant in the forecourt.

The 'Gate Inn' on the A40 at Scleddau
Quite a startling sight as you head along the A40 - but one of many boldly painted properties in West Wales. The name 'Gate Inn' refers to the toll gate which once stood here - bitterly resented by local people, as ceridwen has pointed out http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/296451. Notice that the pavement just in front of the pub lies a couple of feet below the level of the present roadway - presumably the result of measures taken to level out the carriageway in fairly recent times.

The Gate Inn gone green
Pub at Scleddau in new livery. The name commemorates the toll gate that once existed here, an object of attack by the Rebecca Rioters in 1843.

The Gate Inn and old village pump
Scleddau is little more than a hamlet, named for its location close to the infant western branch of the Afon/River Cleddau. Now cars flash through unimpeded on the A40 but formerly, when it was a turnpike road, this was the site of one of the infamous tollgates which were the focus of the 1840's Rebecca Rioters: angry local men in drag who tore down the gates in protest at the extortionate fees levied on them as they went to and fro about their daily business. Hence the name of the pub.
