Nott Square (it's not!)
King Street merges into Nott Square at this point with a selection of familiar high-street shops roundabout. General Nott, of whom there is a statue behind the photographer's position, was a military hero of the Afghan campaign of 1842 and buried at St Peter's church at the other end of King Street. Recently there has been debate as to whether his statue should be replaced that of Gwynfor Evans, the first Plaid Cymru MP and arguably closer to the heart of the town. He was also a pacifist.
