Island House public house
The Island House pub as it was in 2007. At this time it was one of the only buildings left in an area scheduled for development. It has since been demolished to make way for a new cinema and entertainment centre.

Man and machine in perfect interaction
Sad as it was to see the Stepney Hotel disappear before my very eyes, I've never seen such perfect and delicate control of a massive machine by a human being, especially with the way Andy interacted with his demolishing digger. I watched him pick up anything from single planks of wood, segments of wall and then crush them into rubble, or even delicately pick up this RSJ beam as if it was a toothpick (which was being used as a tool to hem in the rubble). It's only after looking at my pictures I can see the intense concentration in his face as he manipulated the controls - man and machine acting as one. Amazing!
What was even more astonishing was to see that all the rooms appeared to be still furnished! Chairs, wardrobes and even toilets were clearly visible as the demolition progressed, but they all ended up with the same fate - rubble or being scooped into large skips which were regularly whisked away by lorries.

Afon Lliedi alongside Aldi, Llanelli
The Aldi supermarket http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3397875 is on the left.
The river looks like a stagnant drainage channel. This view was taken in April 2012 during a prolonged period of below-average rainfall and shortly after a warm March 2012, so perhaps this state of the river is not typical. http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3397944 to a view of the same stretch of river in the opposite direction.

Aldi Supermarket
Adjacent to the last remnants of the old Buckley's Brewery (now a listed building), this new Aldi store was built in 2006 on land that was previously occupied by the brewery.

Twilight for the Stepney Hotel
The Stepney hotel was once one of Llanelli's finest buildings and most prodigious hotels. Time hasn't been kind to the Stepney and the last few years saw dereliction rapidly take over. Despite many locals appealing for its renovation due to its historic importance, demolition was approved.
The final death blow came this morning when the demolition finally started and within 8 hours, one entire wing was already gone.
The already full skip next to the digger is actually full of crushed furniture - much of the fittings and furnishings were still in the rooms as they fell.
The picture was a 5 second exposure, taken entirely using street lighting.
