Abandoned railway, 50 years on
Between the trees can be seen a pool of water which stands on the bed of the former Firbeck Colliery branch railway. This was built as a joint enterprise between the LNER and LMSR in 1926. It closed in 1968 with the closure of the colliery, its only source of traffic.
