Stile near Knabbe's Hall Farm
In 1922, in his book, "History of Silkstone", the Reverend Prince wrote:“Nabbs is a very interesting old house, and well worth a visit from the antiquary. It is situate near Silkstone Station, and the property of Mr P. Johnson, of Green House, Penistone : his two sons reside there farming the estate. Mr Percival Johnson tells me this is the third residence built on the same site. The oldest date now discernible is over the stable door viz. 1644 and on the barn adjoining, R.S. 1653. This is the same Robert Swift who held charters, tithes and leases from Queen Elizabeth and James I . Over the malting house the initials of William and Elizabeth Wood appear “W.W.E. 1658 On the front of the house there are some lead pipes of beautiful shape and workmanship and on the left of the porch in raised figures ‘E.W. & W.W. 1662’ ; on the right ‘E.W. & W.W. 1666’ and over the porch W.W. 1666."

Yellow box in rough grassland, by Knabbs Hall Farm
There are many of these numbered yellow boxes on either side of the bridleway. Perhaps they are part of a monitoring system? The former railway cutting and tunnel nearby has been unstable, due to underground fires in coal seams.

Footpath from Knabbs Hall Farm to Knabbs Lane, Silkstone Common
This was as far as I got, as between me and the farm there were some rather aggressive bramble stems across the path.

The footpath is the one from Knabbs Hall Farm to Knabbs Lane and the Trail veers left and goes along the top of the cutting for the former railway. Walkers have a choice of route.
