Three forms of transport are represented here: the shot is taken from a railway bridge (albeit on a now defunct line), to the north is a road bridge over the motorway, and yet further north (and still just in the grid square) is a footbridge.

Eastbound empties descending Worsbrough Bank
View westward at Strafford Crossing, towards West Silstone Junction, Penistone, Woodhead Tunnel and Manchester: ex-GC Barnsley avoiding line on Wath - Penistone - Manchester main line, soon (1954) to be electrified. The Class J empties is descending the fearsome Worsbrough Bank (3 miles at 1-in-40), headed by Peppercorn K1 2-6-0 No. 62015 (built 7/49, withdrawn 7/65).
